2024 Admissions Results

For the second year in a row, Princeton was the most popular “dream school” for our students. 12 out of our 24 students applied to Princeton, and 3 of 12 got in (25% acceptance rate). 2 of those 3 applied Single-Choice Early Action.

Big Green Admissions Results for 2024

We’ve just concluded another year of competitive college admissions at Big Green College Prep, and here are some of our company stats and insights for the 2023/2024 application cycle.

Enrollment

This year we helped 24 students with college applications. That’s in addition to 21 students in our SAT/ACT prep program, and 12 students in our Candidacy Building program for high school underclassmen.

Demographics

Our students came from all across the country, and all around the world. The most popular regions were the Northeast (#1), California (#2), and Texas and Illinois (tied for #3). We also had 8 international students, and the most popular regions were India (#1), China (#2), and the U.K. (#3). We had 13 boys and 11 girls. And for the first time, we had two sets of twins.

College Application Packages

Of the 24 students we helped with college applications this year, 12 signed up for the 15-college package, 7 signed up for the 20-college package, and 5 signed up for the 1-college package. We also had 32 students sign up for one or more one-hour consultations.

Admissions Stats

Out of our 24 students, 22 of them (92%) got accepted to a Top 30 university, and 18 of them (75%) got accepted to a Top 20 university. The two students who didn’t get into a Top 30 university got into NYU (ranked #35) and Boston College (ranked #39), which were their first choice schools. 12 of our students (50%) got accepted to their first-choice school. 100% of our students got accepted to a Top 40 college.

Acceptance Results

Here’s where our 24 students plan to enroll next fall: Harvard (1), Yale (1), Princeton (3), MIT (2), UPenn (2), Dartmouth (1), Stanford (2), Brown (1), Duke (1), Amherst (1), Northwestern (1), Cornell (1), UC Berkeley (1), UMich (1), Georgetown (2), Carnegie Mellon (1), NYU (1), Boston College (1). Three students accepted spots on the waitlists at Stanford, Yale, and Princeton, which may affect their final decision.

SAT/ACT Submission Stats

Of our 24 students, 22 of them submitted either their SAT or ACT scores. 1 student chose not to submit their scores and got accepted to Brown Early Decision. And 1 student applied only to UC schools (which are test-blind) and got accepted to UC Berkeley. With many top colleges once again requiring the SAT or ACT for fall 2024 (including Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, Caltech, and UT Austin), we expect most of our students to continue submitting their test scores.

SAT/ACT Test Prep Results

21 students enrolled in our SAT/ACT test prep program this year (16 for the SAT, and 5 for the ACT). 18 students enrolled in our Full Course, and 3 students enrolled in our 1-Month Bootcamp. For the Full Course, the average improvement on the test (from the first timed practice test to their final official superscore) was 230 points on the SAT, and 4 points on the ACT. The average improvement from the 1-Month Bootcamp was 105 points on the SAT, and 2 points on the ACT.

Conclusions

Once again, we saw that the vast majority of our students who got into one of their top-choice schools had three things in common: 1) strong SAT/ACT scores of 1500+, 2) a clear and compelling “theme” to their application, and 3) interesting, well-written essays. Increasingly we’re finding that students need all three to get into a top-tier school.

MIT was also a popular choice among our students this year, both for the strength of their CS/engineering programs, and the top-rated undergraduate business program at Sloan. Six of our students applied to MIT as their first choice, and two got accepted (33% acceptance rate).

This year, many of our students took the new digital SAT. Our prep work combined practice on the both the digital and paper versions, since much of the content remains the same. On average, students who enrolled in our Full Course improved 230 points on the SAT, and 4 points on the ACT.
